Two labourers escaped serious injury this week at a construction site in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when a large mound of earth caved in while they were digging a roadside drain at Beri-Pattan near Sunderbani.
The workers, whose identities have not yet been revealed, found themselves quickly buried under the fallen earth as they performed their duties. Local officials reported that the swift action of their fellow labourers played a critical role in their survival. In an impressive display of camaraderie, other workers immediately rushed to their aid and managed to extricate them from the debris.
Construction sites are often fraught with hazards, particularly in regions like Jammu and Kashmir, where the terrain can be unpredictable. Recent statistics indicate that workplace accidents, particularly in construction, have surged over the past year. Safety protocols and measures are now more crucial than ever to prevent incidents.
The authorities have urged construction companies operating in the region to enhance safety regulations and provide proper training for labourers. “Every worker deserves a safe working environment,” stated an official from the local labor department. “We are committed to ensuring that safety measures are not just in theory but are implemented effectively at all sites.”
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by labourers in the construction industry. As infrastructure development continues in Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring safe working conditions should remain a priority. More stringent safety checks and regular training sessions can greatly mitigate risks, potentially saving lives.
The local government has indicated that they will investigate this incident further and work with construction firms to rectify any safety compliance issues. “Our labourers are our strength,” the official added, emphasizing the need for improved safety in the industry.
As the rescued labourers recover from the incident, their colleagues expressed relief at their safe return. “It was a narrow escape for us all,” one worker reflected, highlighting the loyalty and dedication present among the local labour force.
Going forward, both industry leaders and government officials must prioritize the safety and security of workers, ensuring that incidents like this become a rarity rather than the norm in Jammu and Kashmir.
