PM Modi Lauds RSS on Centenary, Releases Coin and Stamp

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on its centenary celebration held in New Delhi on Wednesday. The Prime Minister emphasized the organization’s commitment to the principle of ‘nation first,’ despite enduring significant challenges throughout its history.

During his address at the centenary event, Modi lauded the RSS’s historical contributions to nation-building. He remarked how the organization has played a vital role in fostering national unity by bridging caste and creed divisions. “The Sangh has fought against British atrocities, sheltered freedom fighters, and the visionary Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, its founder, experienced imprisonment multiple times during the freedom struggle,” Modi stated.

The Prime Minister recalled the trials the RSS has faced, including bans and false allegations, affirming its resilience. He quoted former RSS chief Madhav Golwalkar, who articulated a profound sense of patience and perseverance during adversity, stating, “At times, the tongue may get caught under the teeth, but we do not break the teeth.”

Modi further highlighted the RSS’s steadfastness during the Emergency period and the organization’s enduring faith in democracy. “The two core values of oneness with society and unwavering belief in constitutional institutions have enabled swayamsevaks to maintain composure in every crisis,” he emphasized.

To commemorate this significant milestone, PM Modi also released a special ₹100 commemorative coin and a postal stamp. The coin, displaying the national emblem, featured Bharat Mata depicted in Varada Mudra, accompanied by a lion and swayamsevaks bowing in reverence. Modi termed this occasion historic, stating, “This is a moment of great pride as Bharat Mata has been featured on Indian currency for the first time in independent India.”

The postal stamp issued also holds historical significance as it illustrates the RSS’s participation in the 1963 Republic Day Parade, further anchoring the organization’s legacy.

Modi acknowledged the RSS’s humanitarian efforts during key national crises, including the 1962 war, the refugee crisis of 1971, and the communal riots of 1984. He commended the organization’s ongoing commitment to principles of equality, compassion, and unity. Highlighting current Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat’s vision, he endorsed Bhagwat’s call advocating “one well, one temple, one cremation ground” as a crucial step towards eradicating societal discrimination.

In response, RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale expressed gratitude towards the government for acknowledging the Sangh’s century-long service. He referred to the release of the commemorative coin and stamp as a tribute to the selfless dedication of swayamsevaks since 1925.

The event draws attention to the RSS’s multifaceted role in contemporary Indian society. By emphasizing its commitment to nation-building, the organization continues to thrive in the political landscape of India.
