Javed Ahmed Rana Urges Preservation of Tribal Heritage at Mendhar

Minister for Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, emphasized the necessity of collective and sustained efforts to preserve and promote the rich tribal heritage in the Pir Panjal region. This call came during the vibrant Tribal Mela organized by the Tribal Affairs Department alongside the District Administration in Sagra, Mendhar (Poonch).

During his address, Rana asserted that development must not come at the cost of cultural erosion. He advocated for an integrative approach, which balances modernization with the preservation of traditional values, warning that unchecked progress risks diluting the essence of tribal customs and moral frameworks.

The Minister reiterated the Omar Abdullah Government’s commitment to inclusive development, aiming to foster a resilient, self-reliant tribal society enriched by its heritage. He commended the Tribal Affairs Department and local administration for their efforts in organizing the event, describing it as a meaningful step towards development with dignity.

The Tribal Mela attracted a significant number of locals, offering a platform to display tribal heritage, food, and traditional wisdom. The stalls featured indigenous cuisines, medicinal plants, and traditional healthcare knowledge. Additionally, a free medical camp catered to the community’s health needs, providing consultations and services to the public.

This event underscores the government’s dedication to ensuring that development policies remain rooted in the realities of tribal life while celebrating the vibrant culture and heritage of these communities.

Prominent figures present included Chairperson DDC Poonch Tazeem Akhtar, Deputy Commissioner Poonch Ashok Kumar Sharma, senior officials, and a large gathering of locals, all sharing in the celebration of their unique tribal identity.
