On the birth anniversary of revered nationalist leader Pandit Prem Nath Dogra, affectionately called Sher-e-Duggar, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) paid rich tributes across Jammu and Kashmir today. The tribute aimed to honor Dogra’s enduring legacy towards national unity.
The commemorative events unfolded in Srinagar, where BJP National General Secretary and In-charge for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Tarun Chugh led the observance. He, along with senior party leaders, garlanded the portrait of Pt. Dogra at the BJP office, reflecting the party’s admiration for his contributions.
Attendees included prominent figures such as Sat Sharma, J&K BJP President; Ashok Koul, General Secretary (Organization); Dr. Shehnaz Ganai, and Anwar Khan. They paid floral tributes, emphasizing the significance of Dogra’s ideology and sacrifices.
During the ceremony, Chugh hailed Pt. Dogra as “an institution of national integration and selfless service.” He reiterated that the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A by the Narendra Modi Government epitomized Dogra’s lifelong aspiration for a united India, expressing that this represented “the ultimate tribute to his steadfast commitment to national unity.”
Sat Sharma described Pt. Dogra as a visionary leader who played a pivotal role in the Praja Parishad Movement. Sharma highlighted Dogra’s unwavering commitment to integrate Jammu and Kashmir completely with India, stating, “Pandit Ji’s long-cherished dream has been realized under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
Ashok Koul reflected on Pt. Dogra’s legacy, noting his moral integrity and resolute leadership in driving the “Ek Vidhan, Ek Nishan, Ek Pradhan” movement, which resulted in the dissolution of the separate office of Prime Minister in J&K.
In Jammu, the BJP contingent included MP (Lok Sabha) Jugal Kishore Sharma, J&K BJP General Secretaries Sanjita Dogra and Baldev Singh Billawaria, among other leaders. They performed a Hawan at Dogra Chowk, further honoring the late leader’s memory with floral offerings.
Jugal Kishore Sharma praised Dogra as “a towering statesman and patriot who led the historic Praja Parishad Movement for full integration of J&K with India.” His remarks underscored the historical significance of Dogra’s contributions to the region.
Sanjita Dogra encouraged party workers to emulate Pandit Ji’s selfless spirit, calling for a dedication to principles that Dogra championed. Baldev Singh Billawaria emphasized that Dogra’s ideology laid the essential groundwork for Jammu and Kashmir’s integration with the Indian Union.
Overall, the commemoration of Pt. Prem Nath Dogra marked a pivotal moment to recognize his significant influence in Indian politics and the ongoing commitment of the BJP to uphold his legacy.
