Bihar Assembly Elections to Be Held in Two Phases

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar announced on Monday that the Bihar Assembly elections will take place in two phases on November 6 and 11. The counting of votes will occur on November 14. The entire electoral process will conclude by November 16.

During a press conference, Kumar emphasized the significance of these elections, dubbing them the “mother of all elections.” He underscored the need for transparency and smooth execution throughout all constituencies in Bihar.

According to the Election Commission’s schedule, 121 Assembly constituencies will vote in the first phase on November 6, while 122 constituencies will participate in the second phase on November 11.

“It is mandatory to complete counting of postal ballots before the last two rounds of counting of votes,” Kumar explained.

The crucial phase of nominations is fast approaching. For the first phase, candidates must file their nominations by October 17, with scrutiny scheduled for October 18. The deadline for withdrawing from the nomination process is set for October 20.

Similarly, in the second phase, the deadline for filing nominations is October 20, while scrutiny will take place on October 21. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until October 23.

As the electoral timeline unfolds, it is noteworthy that the current Bihar Legislative Assembly’s term ends on November 22. Hence, the urgency and importance of these elections resonate with the electorate.

Bihar has a total of 243 Assembly constituencies. This includes two reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) and 38 reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC). As the state gears up for these crucial elections, voters and political parties alike are bracing for a heated political contest.
