Police in Jammu and Kashmir seized over one kilogram of charas and arrested two alleged drug peddlers in operations conducted on Monday in Shopian and Budgam districts. These actions highlight ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
In Shopian, the Police Station Zainapora acted on specific intelligence regarding drug activities. Officers registered FIR No. 77/2025 under the NDPS Act before seeking a search warrant from the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court.
A police team, led by the SHO Zainapora and accompanied by the Executive Magistrate 1st Class, raided the home of Gh. Mohammad Sheikh, a resident of Humhuna Nagbal. During the search, they recovered one kilogram of charas-like substance alongside a grinder allegedly used for processing contraband.
“The accused is currently absconding, and efforts to apprehend him are ongoing,” police officials stated.
In a separate incident within Shopian, the police at a checkpoint in Naghard Wachi intercepted a suspect named Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Pombia Kulgam. He was found with 101 grams of charas-like substance. Authorities registered a fresh case, FIR No. 78/2025 under the NDPS Act, at Police Station Zainapora.
Turning to Budgam, another suspected drug peddler, identified as Moomin Qadir Dhobi of Dharambugh Kralpora, was arrested during a routine naka checking at Checkpora Kralpora. Officers discovered 112 grams of charas-like substance in his possession.
A new case, FIR No. 173/2025 under the NDPS Act, has been registered at the Police Station Chadoora. Ongoing investigations aim to uncover further details regarding the sources and networks of drug trafficking in the area.
The recent uptick in drug-related incidents has raised alarms among local authorities, prompting intensified efforts to address narcotics issues in Jammu and Kashmir. With the police actively intercepting peddlers, the community appeals for vigilance to help curb the spread of drug abuse.
