Doda, November 08, 2025: Doda Police solved a motorcycle theft case within 48 hours, arresting two suspects and recovering the stolen vehicle. The prompt action underscores the police’s commitment to maintaining public safety in the region.

On November 5, 2025, the Police Station Assar registered a complaint from Omair Ullah Wani, reporting his motorcycle (registration number JK06A-6107) missing from the Jathi area. This led to the filing of FIR No. 37/2025 under Section 302(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Responding to the urgency of the case, SSP Doda Shri Sandeep Mehta (JKPS) ordered a special investigative team. Led by PSI Shivam Dev Singh, the team operated under the supervision of DySP DAR Doda and SHO Police Station Assar.

Following specific leads, police detained the two suspects in the early morning hours of November 6. During rigorous questioning, the individuals confessed to the theft, stating they had stolen the motorcycle on the night of October 26. The police recovered the motorcycle from their possession shortly thereafter.

The accused were identified as:

  • Mohd Tariq @ Baffer, S/o Mohd Aslam, from Bhagtha, Katra, District Reasi — known as a habitual offender and absconder.
  • Munish Kumar, S/o Mansa Ram, from Bali Chanalra Bhalesa, District Doda.

Authorities discovered that Mohd Tariq has an extensive criminal history, with numerous FIRs registered against him for a variety of offenses across several districts. His record includes serious charges under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Among the 18 FIRs lodged against him, notable entries include multiple thefts, burglaries, and other serious crimes. His elusive nature led courts to issue a general warrant for his arrest under Section 512 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The swift actions of the Police Station Assar demonstrate the Doda Police’s commitment to public safety and effective crime resolution. The recovered motorcycle was returned to its owner, bringing peace of mind back to the victim.

SSP Doda, Shri Sandeep Mehta (JKPS), highlighted the police department’s resolve, stating, “Doda Police is committed to act firmly against repeat offenders and criminal elements involved in theft and other unlawful activities. Swift investigation and timely action remain our top priorities to ensure the safety and security of citizens.”
