The Inter Zonal District Level Athletics Competition for All Age Group (AAG) Girls kicked off today at the University of Jammu. Organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), District Jammu, this meet draws around 300 girl athletes from diverse government and private schools.
Participants displayed immense enthusiasm in various track and field events, showcasing their strength, speed, and competitive spirit. The competition aims to promote sporting opportunities for young girls, and it highlights the commitment of local authorities to foster a healthy lifestyle among youth.
On the opening day, the discus throw events produced thrilling performances. In the U-19 category, Sweety Devi from Zone Marh clinched the gold medal, followed by Konika Chib from Zone RS Pura winning silver, and Renu from Zone Bishnah taking home the bronze. The U-17 category saw Nidhi Verma from Zone Satwari emerge victorious, while Kiran Kumari from Zone Bhalwal and Nirjala from Zone Bishnah earned silver and bronze respectively.
Furthermore, in the U-14 category, Subhana from Zone Satwari claimed the top spot. Meanwhile, Sonakshi from Zone Miran Sahib won silver and Mansi from Zone Akhnoor secured the bronze medal.
The 100m races also drew significant attention. Damanpreet from Zone Bishnah took gold in the U-14 category, while Nishta Sharma from Zone Jammu and Shivani from Zone Jammu emerged victorious in the U-17 and U-19 categories, respectively.
In the gripping 400m events, Sahiba Choudhary from Zone Dansal claimed victory in the U-14 category. Meanwhile, Nishta Sharma again excelled in the U-17 category, demonstrating her athletic prowess.
Among the standout performances was the 300m race, where Mehak from Zone Jammu won gold in the U-19 category, along with Sonia Choudhary from Zone Dansal taking the title in U-17.
The competition also featured high jump events. In the U-14 category, Shriya Bhagat from Zone Chowki Choura impressed with her remarkable performance, while Rohika Devi from the same zone excelled in the U-17. Payal Kumari, also from Zone Chowki Choura, claimed victory in the U-19 category.
Officials from DYSS, including Nirmal Singh, Chamel Singh, Sarabjeet Singh, Vijay Sharma, Harsimran Singh, and others, attended the event to present medals to the outstanding performers.
They congratulated the winners and encouraged every athlete to embody values of dedication, discipline, team spirit, and sportsmanship in the course of the tournament.
