Jammu’s Ravinder Singh Wins Gold at ISSF Championships

Naib Subedar Ravinder Singh, a talented shooter from the Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) in Mhow, captured the spotlight by winning a gold medal in the Men’s 50m Free Pistol event at the ISSF World Championships. The event took place at the prestigious Egypt International Olympic City Range, where Ravinder competed against 47 elite shooters.

Ravinder’s journey to victory showcased his exceptional skill and unwavering determination. He started the competition with a score of 93 in his first series but quickly improved his performance as the rounds progressed. Shooting scores of 98, 94, 95, 93, and a standout 96, he finished with a total of 569 points. This impressive tally secured his position ahead of South Korea’s Kim Cheongyong (556) and Individual Neutral Athlete Anton Aristarkhov (556), who took home the silver and bronze respectively.

What makes Ravinder’s achievement even more remarkable is his preparation. He had been away from training for over two weeks due to the birth of his daughter. Just 4-5 days of practice stood between him and the championship. His discipline and resilience proved pivotal in this defining moment of his career.

In addition to his individual prowess, Ravinder’s efforts contributed to India clinching a silver medal in the team event of the 50m Free Pistol. Alongside teammates Kamaljeet (540) and Yogesh Kumar (537), they collectively achieved a score of 1646 points, narrowly missing the gold by just two points.

Earlier this year, the National Games silver medallist expressed his gratitude for the support he received from his family and the Army, stating, “It’s not my personal achievement but for all those who stood behind me. I am thankful to my family and the Army for their support.”

His victory has resonated deeply within his community. Former MLA Ashwani Kumar Sharma praised him as a role model for youth, inspiring many to pursue their dreams in sports. Hundreds of enthusiastic residents gathered in the streets of Bishnah to celebrate his historic triumph.

Ravinder Singh’s achievement reinforces India’s growing prominence in the global shooting arena. His dedication and competitive spirit serve as powerful motivation for aspiring athletes across the nation.
