A man in Mathura has been arrested for issuing a death threat to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath through social media. Identified as Sunit alias “Katua,” he hails from Nagla Hardayal in the Mant area.
Sunit allegedly posted a viral video brandishing a pistol and warned that he would shoot the Chief Minister by September 25 before taking his own life. He displayed a magazine claiming it contained nine bullets and threatened to ‘fire all nine.’
In the video, Sunit explained his drastic measures were due to feeling ignored after he filed a complaint with the CM’s office with no response. This prompted him to take such a grave action.
The standoff escalated when police attempted to apprehend him on Friday evening. Upon their arrival, Sunit locked himself inside and opened fire from the third floor of his home, threatening to turn the gun on himself.
After about an hour of negotiation and attempts to reason with him, police managed to subdue and arrest Sunit. Law enforcement seized a pistol and live ammunition during the apprehension.
Local residents noted that Sunit had been under pronounced mental stress, frequently discussing his personal turmoil out loud. His behavior reportedly became increasingly erratic over recent months, raising alarms among the community.
The viral nature of the threat video prompted swift action from law enforcement. Authorities now investigate how Sunit acquired the firearm and the true motives behind his threats against CM Yogi Adityanath.
A case has been registered against Sunit, with charges including criminal intimidation, incitement to violence, and illegal firearms possession.
Officials emphasize the importance of mental health awareness as this incident sheds light on the pressures some individuals face, potentially driving them to drastic measures.
An ongoing investigation will aim to uncover more about the circumstances leading to this alarming threat.
