Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the immense strength of Jammu and Kashmir’s youth and the transformative impact of train services on trade and goods movement during a recent event in New Delhi. His remarks came during the launch of the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, a comprehensive ₹24,000 crore initiative aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and promoting sustainable farming practices.
The Prime Minister interacted with progressive farmers from various states who shared their success stories. One notable participant, Fayaz Ahmad Ganaie from Ganderbal district, expressed gratitude for the government’s support, attributing his success to the benefits he received from Modi’s progressive schemes. “I’ve come from Kashmir. I saw your progressive schemes for farmers and availed their benefits. Today, I have 14 employees and earn around ₹15 lakh in profits annually,” Ganaie reported.
PM Modi responded positively, stating, “The youth of Jammu and Kashmir have immense strength. Now with the train services, goods have been moving fast from the Kashmir Valley.” This transition marks a significant milestone, as goods trains began operating directly from New Delhi to Kashmir, facilitating the transportation of vehicles, apples, and other agricultural products for the first time.
During the event, Modi encouraged farmers to explore natural farming methods, proposing experimental planting on small plots to cultivate confidence in innovative practices. Several farmers attested to the effectiveness of such methods based on earlier interactions with the Prime Minister.
A woman farmer from the region praised the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, referring to the annual ₹6,000 assistance as “a blessing” that enabled her to procure seeds and prepare her fields efficiently. Other farmers presented innovations such as aeroponically grown “Jain potato” and value-added garlic products like paste and powder.
Highlighting the agricultural achievements in India, PM Modi noted substantial growth in the sector over the last 11 years. Agricultural exports have nearly doubled, foodgrain output has surged by 90 million metric tonnes, and production of fruits and vegetables has increased by 64 million metric tonnes. India now ranks first in milk production globally and stands as the second-largest fish producer, with honey production witnessing a two-fold increase since 2014.
Moreover, the establishment of over 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) is set to enhance cooperation among farmers and improve their market access. Modi stated that the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana draws inspiration from the successful Aspirational Districts Model, focusing on empowering farmers through innovation, technology, and inclusive growth strategies.
As train services continue to elevate trade in the Valley, the government remains optimistic about leveraging the potential of Jammu and Kashmir’s youth, thereby enhancing economic activities and promoting agricultural advancements in the region.
