Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the significance of the ‘Make in India’ initiative during a celebratory address on Thursday, marking its 11-year milestone. He stated that this initiative has played a pivotal role in enhancing the growth of the Indian economy and steering the nation towards self-reliance.
“It is gladdening to see how 11 Years Of Make In India has contributed to furthering economic strength and laying the foundation for Aatmanirbharta, encouraging innovation and job creation across sectors,” PM Modi posted on X, formerly Twitter.
Initiated on this very day 11 years ago, the Make in India initiative aimed to accelerate India’s growth while harnessing the entrepreneurial spirit of its populace. PM Modi remarked, “Make in India has given an impetus to India’s entrepreneurs, thus creating a global impact.”
He called for an escalated focus on indigenous production, affirming that the government remains committed to supporting stakeholders. Modi expressed the need for India to nurture a robust ‘Swadeshi’ economy as it progresses.
During the event, PM Modi inaugurated the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show-2025. He addressed the assembly by stating that the government has simplified operations for businesses to flourish in the country.
“The government emphasizes Make in India manufacturing. Our aim is for every component, from chips to ships, to be produced in India. To facilitate this, we are focused on enhancing your ease of doing business,” he noted. PM Modi also pointed out the reduction of over 40,000 compliance requirements and decriminalization of more than 1,000 laws to foster a business-friendly environment.
As celebrations unfolded for the success of the Make in India initiative, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal praised the government for its advancements in indigenous defence production. Goyal affirmed, “The world is a witness to India’s defence manufacturing strength today! Guided by the vision of PM Narendra Modi, the nation has scripted landmark achievements in indigenous defence production, reflecting the success of the Make In India initiative.”
In a significant development highlighting India’s growing defence capabilities, the country successfully launched the Intermediate Range Agni-Prime Missile from a rail-based mobile launcher system, capable of covering ranges up to 2,000 km. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the involved agencies, affirming India’s commitment to bolstering its defence manufacturing sector.
The Make in India initiative not only reinvigorated the manufacturing landscape but also aimed at establishing India as a global manufacturing hub. By promoting local production and encouraging businesses to innovate, the government supports its vision of a sustainable and self-sufficient economy.
