Sunil Sethi Resigns from JKCA, Highlights Back-Dated Orders

In a significant upheaval within the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), Sunil Sethi, a Member of the Sub-Committee responsible for legal affairs, has tendered his resignation. He cited the issuance of ‘back-dated orders’ by the former Ombudsman as the key reason for his decision.

Sethi’s resignation came shortly after the Supreme Court directed that JKCA elections must occur within 12 weeks under the oversight of former Chief Election Commissioner Achal Kumar Joti. His departure from the Sub-Committee has raised eyebrows, especially in the context of ongoing changes in the association’s governance structure.

Having served on the Sub-Committee since 2021, Sethi expressed deep concerns over the implications of these alleged orders. He articulated these apprehensions in a resignation letter addressed to BCCI President Mithun Manhas.

“As the Supreme Court has mandated the holding of elections for JKCA, the effort to appoint a new Ombudsman remains unapproved by the Election Officer until the General Body is formed. Meanwhile, back-dated orders are being issued by the former Ombudsman to March 2025, with no prior notice or justification to me,” Sethi stated.

His allegations highlight a potentially serious issue concerning the integrity of the JKCA’s governance. He further remarked, “These back-dated orders are not just arbitrary; they are altering club management and voting rights. This manipulation of voting nomenclature is an act I do not wish to be associated with.”

In his letter, Sethi concluded by formally resigning from his position: “As such, I tender my resignation from the Member Sub-Committee. Please accept and relieve me. I am thankful for the opportunity the board has bestowed on me.”

Sethi’s resignation places a spotlight on the governance practices within JKCA, particularly following the Supreme Court’s ruling. The cricketing community in Jammu and Kashmir now watches closely to see how the JKCA navigates these turbulent waters. With elections looming, stakeholders hope that transparency and adherence to legal protocols will guide the association’s future.
