Vishwakarma Day, a significant occasion for technical workers, artisans, and industrial staff, was celebrated with great devotion and traditional fervour across Jammu today. On this day, devotees offered prayers to Lord Vishwakarma, the divine architect and creator of the universe, seeking blessings for safety, prosperity, and success in their professions.
In keeping with tradition, workers observed a “no-work” day. They dedicated this time to cleaning, servicing, and worshipping their machines and tools. This gesture stems from the belief that praying to Lord Vishwakarma enhances the overall prosperity of industries and provides protection from accidents. Vishwakarma Day is traditionally celebrated the day after Diwali, marking a time for renewal and reverence.
The main celebrations took place at the Vishwakarma Sabha Temple Complex, Bakshi Nagar, Jammu, where a Hawan and special prayers were conducted. Organised by the Vishwakarma Sabha, the event attracted numerous prominent personalities, including Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma, MLA Jammu West Arvind Gupta, and J&K BJP President and former Minister Sat Sharma (CA). These dignitaries gathered to pay homage to the divine figure of Lord Vishwakarma.
Speakers at the event highlighted Lord Vishwakarma’s life and legacy, referring to him as the “divine engineer.” They recognised him as a source of inspiration for every craftsman and worker who designs, builds, or creates. The dignitaries praised the technical workers’ contributions to nation-building and advocated for the unity and welfare of the Vishwakarma community.
The proceedings flowed smoothly under the guidance of Kuljeet Rai (Chairman, Vishwakarma Sabha), along with key figures such as Vijay Kumar (Vice Chairman) and other committee members, including Rattan Lal Changotra, Ashok Kumar, Om Parkash, and Sanjay Kumar.
Simultaneously, celebrations also took place at the Vishwakarma Temple, New Plots, Jammu, featuring a Hawan and Bhajan Kirtan, which were organised by Mohinder Lal (President of the Temple Committee).
During this significant occasion, Mohinder Lal reiterated the demand to declare Vishwakarma Day as a Gazetted Holiday. He noted, “Every worker already observes an undeclared holiday on this day.” He called upon the Government to acknowledge the cultural and industrial importance of the day by officially declaring it a public holiday.
Additionally, a Langer (community feast) was organised, providing refreshments for the attendees. The organising team comprised dedicated members including Rattan Lal, Joginder Angotra, Pappu Virdhi, Vishal Angotra, Kunal Angotra, and Jitender Jajua, who ensured the success of the celebrations.
